Sönke Kaatz and Lori Skerl won the Open Division and Ladies division

Hannover. On Saturday 11 May and Sunday 12 May 2019, the German Open took place in Hannover-Isernhagen. One of the 5 tournaments belonging to the World Series of the International Organsiation. The tournament endowed with 1,000 points for the world rankings was hosted in the Sportpark Isernhagen and was aligned by the association based in Hessisch Oldendorf, Time Sports e.V. A total of 147 players from 15 different nations participated. Players came from Europe, India and Japan.

On Saturday started the games of the group stage. Each participant fought for the entry into the K.O. – Round. But only two players from each group could secure the chance for the title. After the group phases were ended, the K.O. – Rounds in the different categories started. Before we started with the double categories, the quarterfinals of the individual categories were played. In the evening the double games began. After exhausting games in the group stage of the single it was in the double already about everything in the first game.

On Sunday it was now the decisive phase of the tournament. The semi-finals of all categories began. First, double categories were played. In the Open Division could Ekberg / Makrlik prevail in the semifinals against Franke / Zimmermanns and met in the final the German double Joop / Kaatz, which previously won against Jöhnk / Kröber. In two sets Makrlik / Ekberg could secure the title of the German Open in double.

In mixed doubles, Skerl / Jovan and Hubert / Holleis faced each other in the final. The Germans were in the lead here in an exciting Final and thus won the title in mixed!

Now the individual categories started: In the women Lori Skerl from Slovenia beat Anna Hubert. Eliska Andrlova and Andrea Horn took third place.

In the Open Division, Sönke Kaatz won against the young Slovenian Jasa Jovan smoothly in straight sets. Previously, he was able to prevail in the semifinals against Adam Kakula from Slovakia. His opponent Jasa Jovan won against Sweden’s Melker Ekberg.

The winner of the category male O40 is Pavel Podvolecky from the Czech Republic.

The category male O50 won Piotr Borowiec from Poland.

Also in the category female O40 a Polish player could secure the title: Sabina Schabek.

U18 female: Gala Zukic (Croatia)

U14 male: Matej Krupika (Czech Republic)

U12 open: Frederik Kardorf (Germany)

Match Umpire School

On Friday the 10th May, the ICO organizes a Match Umpire School at the venue from the German Open.

The Match Umpire School consits of 3 hours theory on Friday from 17pm to 20pm and 2 practical matches as Umpire during the tournament.
